Our Scholars Are Ready to Slam the Exam!

Today, nearly 4,000 third, fourth, and fifth grade scholars from 24 Success Academy schools packed the seats of Manhattan’s historic Radio City Music Hall to celebrate the start of next Tuesday’s New York State English Language Arts exams and the New York State math test slated for May.

Scholars prepared to “slam the exam” with the help of the event’s MCs, SA Bronx 4 principal Shea Reeder and SA Bensonhurst principal Jonathan Dant. With an upbeat performance from the network dance team and all 24 schools performing a cheer to the tune of songs by artists like Chance the Rapper and Bruno Mars, we’re pretty sure Radio City Music Hall has never been louder!

During the excitement, six SA scholars received awards in ELA and math, for both excellence and growth in both subjects. The ELA and math excellence awards celebrates scholars who received the highest score in that subject on recent exams. The growth awards honors scholars who demonstrated incredible progress in ELA or math throughout the year.

This year’s award winners are:

ELA Growth: Frederick Gayle (SA Bergen Beach)
ELA Excellence: Samuel Park (SA Bensonhurst)

Math Growth: Rory Grady (Harlem 1)
Math Excellence: Our first-ever three-way tie! Gloria Aka (SA Harlem 3 Upper), Marlen Vargas (SA Harlem 1), Olivia Naporano (SA Upper West)

Congratulations to our award winners, and all of our scholars who have worked so hard this school year. We know you’re all ready to Slam the Exam!
