Lawsuit Over Upper West Side Charter School

04/26/2011

By Antwan Lewis

Supporters of the Upper West Success Academy rallied this morning in front of Brandeis High School. They are pushing back against a lawsuit that doesn't want their charter school housed inside.

At stake is the fate of 184 kindergartners, who may not have a school to attend this fall.

Many parents feel that putting the charter school at Brandeis is the wrong move because of overcrowding.

But supporters of Upper West Success Academy say their school represents an undisputed public demand. They've expressed disappointment at city officials who they say support keeping them out.

Both sides will meet in front of a judge who is expected to render his decision on the lawsuit on that day.
