Thank you, Mayor de Blasio

Dear Mayor de Blasio,

Thank you. Thank you for improving the lives of our economically struggling families in a small but important way. Two months ago, you agreed to get all charter students their Metrocards on time. This year, for the first time in the 19-year history of New York’s charter schools, the charter sector received its Metrocards before the first day of school, which starts much earlier than for district schools. While many may not appreciate the significance of this, we do, and more importantly, our families do. Many of them had to pay out of pocket for cards in previous years, and now they can take comfort in the fact that they won’t have to worry about paying for transportation daily. I applaud you for putting politics to the side, and giving all children what they are fundamentally entitled to as members of this great city. Your promise to “cooperate and collaborate” with the public charter sector seems to be genuine, and I look forward to working with you to give all children a high-quality public education.

Sincerely,
Eva Moskowitz
