For the seventh consecutive year, Success Academy Charter Schools – which serve primarily low-income children of color – have scored among the highest-performing schools in New York State. The results are strong: 93% of Success Academy students were proficient in math and 68% were proficient in English Language Arts, compared with New York City students overall, who scored 35% and 30%, respectively. About 3,000 Success Academy students in grades 3-8 took the test last spring — without a single student opting out.
Paulson Family Foundation Pledges $8.5 Million To Create High-quality Public Schools For New York City Children
Success Academy Charter Schools today announced a $8.5 million gift from Jenny and John Paulson and the Paulson Family Foundation to fund the opening of new public charter schools – elementary, middle and high schools – in New York City. John Paulson is founder and president of the investment firm Paulson & Co. Success Academy is the largest and highest-performing charter school network in New York, with (as of August) 34 schools serving 11,000 children from pre-k through high school.
Nineteen Success Academy parents today demanded the right to have their say in a lawsuit that could force them to send their children to a failing district school next year. The lawsuit, which seeks to block the approved co-location of Success Academy Bronx 3 in a half-empty public school building, was filed by Advocates for Justice, a group with strong ties to the teachers union and a history of attempting to block the rights of charter school children to share public school space.
