Hundreds of SA Scholars Grades K-2 Will Have the Opportunity To See the Big Apple Circus from the Comfort of Their Own Homes
New York, NY — Today, Success Academy is bringing hundreds of scholars in grades K-2 to the Big Apple Circus, virtually! The performance will begin at 2:00 pm and include clowns, juggling, trapeze artists and more. In years past, Success has brought scholars to the circus in person, however, this year’s performance will be offered via Zoom due to the pandemic.
Today’s event is part of a special series of hour-long virtual field studies that SA is offering to scholars on days that they don’t have school (scholars are off for the day due to faculty development). Earlier this year, 1,400 scholars in grades K-2 “visited” the San Diego Zoo for a tour of the grounds where they had the chance to learn about and visit all of the animals in their natural habitats including elephants, lions, reptiles and more.
“Every child should have the opportunity to experience the wonder of the Big Apple Circus, the joy of the Paper Bag Players, and the awe of the San Diego Zoo, but the reality is that many don’t have the means to. Success Academy has always been committed to closing the opportunity gap and educating the whole child with learning both inside and outside the classroom,” said Eva Moskowitz, Success Academy CEO. “We had to be a bit more creative in how to deliver that during a pandemic.”
Upcoming virtual field trips will include:
- The Paper Bag Players: Tuesday, October 13th. Scholars in grades K-2 will have the opportunity to enjoy a quirky musical theater performance which uses common household objects such as cardboard boxes and brown craft paper and transforms them into sets, props and costumes. The performance combines short plays, rousing songs, freewheeling dances, and mime.
- The Children’s Museum of Boston: on November 23rd. Designed for children and families, the exhibits focus on science, culture, environmental awareness, health and fitness, and the arts.
- The San Diego Zoo: on November 23rd. Educators from the Zoo will give scholars in grades K-2 a tour of grounds where they will have the chance to visit all of the animals in their natural habitats including elephants, lions, reptiles and more.
- The National Aquarium: on November 24th. Scholars in grades K-4 will learn all about sharks and how the Aquarium cares for them.
The virtual field studies are the latest addition to Success Academy’s Remote 2.0 experiential learning programs which include chess, debate, theater, music, dance and athletics, in addition to fun after school programs where scholars get to learn magic tricks from world-class magicians, explore the deep seas, and become familiar with the fundamentals of coding. A great education is about more than just academics — it’s about giving scholars the opportunity to learn about the world around them, develop new talents and passions, and express themselves creatively.
