2016 Results

For the eighth consecutive year, Success Academy Charter Schools have scored among the highest-performing schools in New York State. Five of the top five schools in the state in math, and two of the top five schools in English, are Success Academy schools. Among the 4,230 scholars who were age-eligible to take the tests, 94% were proficient in math and 82% proficient in ELA. In both subjects, students with disabilities and English Language Learners at Success Academy schools not only surpassed their peers statewide, but also outperformed students without disabilities and native English speakers, respectively, across New York.

Scholar Achievements

While we celebrate our scholars’ academic achievements on these exams, Success Academy does not consider test scores the only measure of a child’s education. Our focus is on developing the whole child. From chess and debate tournament wins, art shows and dance performances, to the look of joy on the face of a child who finally understands how to divide fractions, or makes a new friend, we celebrate the many scholar accomplishments throughout each year. We strive to make our schools joyful places of learning, where the pace is fast, the bar is high, and boredom is banished.

  • Ballroom Dance

All Success Academy 4th grade scholars spend ten weeks learning to ballroom dance each fall! The unit culminates with the Colors of the Rainbow dance competitions, during which scholars compete in ballroom dance against students from across the city.

  • The Arts

Each year, 1st grade scholars show off their artwork during the annual 1st Grade Art Show. During the 2015-2016 school year, the 1st Grade Art Show took place at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea. This is a wonderful opportunity for our scholars to showcase their exceptional creativity to friends and family!

  • Winter Opportunity Academy

Winter Opportunity Academy is a special three-week seminar designed by HSLA's faculty to help scholars discover new passions and interests. WOA is modeled after the mini-semester built into many college calendars, a short winter term that offers undergraduates a change of pace from their regular classes with courses that push them outside their comfort zones and reenergize them for the spring term.

  • Service Day

SA High School of the Liberal Arts scholars participate in community service days every year. These days seek to inspire each of our scholars in an active, lifelong commitment to helping the wider community.

  • The Art of Chess

We are passionate about chess at Success Academy! Multiple SA Chess teams competed in the Junior High School Chess National Championship in Indianapolis. SA High, SA Harlem East and SA Bronx 1 Middle School placed in the top ten of their sections.

  • HSLA Takes Europe

SA High scholars traveled to France and Spain during the Spring of 2016. They visited the Eiffel Tower, Nimes, Notre Dame, Park Güell and many more beautiful European destinations.

  • Field Studies

Through our frequent, hands-on field studies, scholars discover New York and all our great city has to offer. The Museum of Jewish Heritage, Rubin Museum and the United Nations are just a few of the venues our scholars visited this year.

  • Aida

SA High School of the Liberal Arts put on a stunning performance of "Aida! The Musical" during the 2015-2016 school year.
