Last weekend, 136 scholars representing 16 Success Academy schools travelled to Nashville, Tennessee, for the United States Chess Federation’s Chess SuperNationals VI. For many scholars, this was their first visit to Tennessee, and for some, it was their first time on a plane.
The USCF typically hosts separate national competitions for elementary, middle, and high school students, but every four years, SuperNationals brings together K-12 chess competitors to compete in various divisions. Our scholars challenged top chess players from around the country, and several teams saw big successes on the national stage!

Success Academy’s results from this year’s USCF Chess SuperNationals:
- The K-5 U900 division hosted 74 teams — and SA Hell’s Kitchen tied for first place! In the same section, SA Bed Stuy 1 and SA Williamsburg tied for seventh place.
- Out of 46 teams in the K-6 U1000 division, SA Union Square tied for third place.
- SA Union Square finished in seventh place in the highly competitive K-3 Open section, which featured 28 top teams.
- In the K-6 U1400 division, SA dominated the top ten rankings: SA Midtown West Middle School placed second, SA Bed Stuy Middle School placed third, SA Hell’s Kitchen placed fifth, and SA Bronx 1 Middle School placed eighth.
- Out of 29 highly competitive teams in the K-5 Open section, SA Union Square finished sixth and SA Cobble Hill finished eighth.
- In the K-6 Open, featuring top-ranked players, SA Midtown West Middle School finished sixth out of 19 teams.
- Success Academy teams were at the top of the rankings in the K-5 U1200 section — with SA Union Square taking fifth place and SA Cobble Hill and SA Williamsburg tying for eighth place.
- In the K-9 U1250, SA High School of the Liberal Arts and SA Harlem East tied for fifth place.
- Out of 44 teams in the K-8 U1000, SA Bronx 1 Middle School finished tenth.
