Celebrating SA HSLA–Brooklyn’s First First Day of School!

It was a day of firsts! Success Academy’s first Brooklyn high school, the first cohort of scholars, and the first day of school! The Class of 2030 is in the house! Success Academy High School of the Liberal Arts—Brooklyn opened its doors this past Monday, August 8, and the mood was celebratory, if nervous, with scholars eager to greet old friends and meet new ones.

We caught up with members of the inaugural class of SA HSLA-BK to hear what they were thinking before their historic first day of school. We can’t wait to see what they achieve this year!

What are you most excited about for this school year?

“The high school experience! I can’t wait to take some higher-level classes than middle school.”

—Olivia Perkins

“Just making new friends and having new experiences! The classes I’m most excited about are AP Bio and AP World History.”

—Alethia Sancho

“I’m nervous, but I’m still really excited because I get to graduate first like I did at SA East Flatbush Middle School. I’m excited to meet new people and join the debate club.

—Shaza Abdelnaby

What does it mean to you to be a part of SA HSLA—Brooklyn’s first class?

“I don’t know where I’d have gone to high school if SA HSLA—Brooklyn hadn’t opened. I’m excited to help guide the younger students in the next few years.”

—Terique Anderson

“I feel honored to be a part of the first class at SA HSLA—Brooklyn. I can’t wait to see my old friends and make new ones here.”

—Devarjae Davis

“It means a lot because I was one of the first kids at SA Ditmas Park, and it was a good experience. We were the first batch. It’s pretty cool.”

—Madison Lewis
