Mission Possible

Stories and insights on excellent education.

Congratulations, Ms. Vandlik!

Success Academy Bronx 1 scholars had something besides the games to smile about at the school’s annual Field Day: They watched as their principal, Liz Vandlik, received the 2017 Ryan Award from the Accelerate Institute of Chicago!

Established in 2013, the Ryan Award is the first award to recognize principals who demonstrate incredible achievements during at least four years of leading a school that serves a large percentage of urban, low-income, and minority students.

The prestigious award recognizes only two principals each year and offers recipients an honorarium of $25,000 and the opportunity to address aspiring school leaders as a special guest lecturer for the Ryan Fellows, during the Accelerate Institute’s summer program held at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

“At Success, we are all on one team – working together every day to inspire our scholars and strive for excellence in all that we do,” said Ms. Vandlik. “I’m proud to be a part of an organization that empowers educators to reverse the achievement gap, and I am honored to share this award with my Bronx family of scholars, parents, and staff who prove what’s possible in public education every day,“ she said.

This isn’t the first time SA Bronx 1 has earned accolades. Last year, the school received a National Blue Ribbon Award for academic excellence from the United State Department of Education. SA Bronx 1 slammed the 2016 New York State exams, with 99% of scholars passing the math exam, and 84% passing the English language arts test. The results placed the school amongst in the top five public schools in the state.

Congratulations, Ms. Vandlik! Thank you for your hard work to make SA Bronx 1 an amazing school.
