In Just Three Days, SA Bensonhurst Scholars Traveled the World

If you had dropped by Success Academy Bensonhurst last Wednesday, you would have been in for quite a treat: Music, dance — and even magic tricks — from countries like China, Georgia, and Russia filled the auditorium during our school’s first ever Multicultural Week Talent Show.

As the multicultural chair of the Parent Council Executive Committee, my goal — shared by a team of parent volunteers and school staff —  was to create a week that would celebrate the wonderful diversity of SA Bensonhurst, and offer families a chance to learn about cultures and traditions beyond their own. The PCEC enjoyed partnering with the school to identify the right time for these events during busy school days!

Celebrating our school’s incredible diversity is so important to me. I grew up in Bensonhurst and I’ve loved watching it develop into a neighborhood where you can hear multiple languages as you walk a single block. I am proud of this diversity, and proud that my children, themselves multiracial, attend a school that views diversity as a strength.

Parent Tatyana Rykov, community relations coordinator Hope Gorman, and office coordinator Temi Okotieuro took some truly stunning photos documenting the week. I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed hosting this event!
