BRONX BOROUGH PRESIDENT VANESSA GIBSON AND ASSEMBLYMEMBER AMANDA SEPTIMO CUT RIBBON ON NEW SUCCESS ACADEMY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SA Bronx 5 Lower and Upper Schools to Help Meet Strong Parent Demand for School Choice

New York, NY, July 28, 2022 — Success Academy parents, students, and educators gathered with Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and Assemblymember Amanda Septimo to celebrate the opening of Success Academy Bronx 5 Lower and Upper Schools in a ribbon-cutting ceremony today.

“There is so much value in what Success Academy has done through the years — providing our youth with a quality education and preparing them to become the next generation of leaders,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. “We need to make sure our parents have access to choice. We need to make sure that our children can hold their heads up high, no matter what their zip code. Success Academy Bronx 5 will serve as a beacon of hope. Our young people can do it — all they need is access and opportunity.”

“When you cut the ribbon on a place like this what you’re saying to young people is all of the hope, promise, and dreams that you have are as worthy and as important as everyone else’s,” said Assemblymember Amanda Septimo. “Everyone across the city deserves the opportunity to walk into a place where they feel valued and supported, and where they are getting what they need. And that’s what’s happening for our young people in this space.”

The two schools, both located at 604 East 139th Street in the Bronx, will serve kindergarten through third graders this year, expanding to K-4 in 2023-24. The buildings, which were previously a Catholic school, have been completely renovated, including ceiling repairs, new floors, doors, and windows, installation of air conditioning, and a new kitchen. The schools will open August 15 and have a combined capacity for 500 children in 20 classrooms, in a joyful, inviting, scholar-centered place of learning.

“We’re so pleased to be able to open another wonderful Success Academy school here in the Bronx, for parents who want an excellent education for their children,” said Founder and CEO Eva Moskowitz. “Success Academy’s distinctive elementary school curriculum is designed to help children fall in love with learning through reading voluminously, solving complex math problems, and engaging in scientific inquiry. Each day is filled with opportunities for scholars to find their own voices to express their ideas, collaborate on class projects, and discover new artistic talents, and this approach prepares them for the rigor and independence needed to succeed in college and in life. We are grateful for philanthropic contributions from the Hilibrand Family and the William E. Simon Foundation to support our Bronx 5 Schools.”
