TWO MONTHS FROM LAUNCH, THOUSANDS OF EDUCATORS — FROM 44 STATES AND 48 COUNTRIES — VISIT THE SUCCESS ACADEMY ED INSTITUTE
A flood of visitors from around the world indicates the field is hungry for coherent, challenging curriculum with proven classroom results
New York, NY — Two months after launching the Success Academy Education Institute, an online platform that makes available for free the curriculum, tools, and training that are the foundation of Success Academy’s school design, over 10,000 visitors have explored the site, more than one third via a mobile device. The flood of visitors, representing 44 states, 48 countries, and over 500 organizations (including 35 districts and state departments of education, 61 Charter Management Organizations, and 22 university-based schools of education), indicates an urgent need in the field for well-designed curriculum with proven results. The Ed Institute launched first with the Success Academy K-4 THINK literacy curriculum, complete with units, daily lesson plans and assignments, reading lists, and videos of exemplary teaching for each component of the curriculum, as well as blueprints and virtual tours of the charter network’s pathbreaking school design. Visitors have logged almost 100,000 page views, with hundreds downloading the THINK literacy curriculum. The Ed Institute represents one of the first efforts by a charter management organization to make its curriculum publically available for free. Advancing national education reform is fundamental to the Success Academy mission, and the Ed Institute was built and launched based on the premise that sharing the Success Academy curriculum, best practices, and other innovative intellectual property would be game-changing for educators — and students. It is clear that educators from across the country and the world agree, and are beginning to take advantage of this free resource.

Founded in 2006, Success Academy Charter Schools are free public K-12 schools open to all children in the state through a random lottery. With 46 schools across Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens, Success Academy enrolls 15,500 students, primarily low-income children of color in disadvantaged neighborhoods: 77% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch, 95% are children of color, 12% are children with disabilities, and 8.5% are English language learners. Ranked in the top 1% in math and the top 1.5% in English on 2016 state proficiency tests, Success Academy schools received more than 17,000 applications for about 3,000 open seats this year.
