Our Favorite Heroes Celebrate Black History Month

At Success Academy, we view black history as simply American history, and we study it throughout the year. In elementary through high school, we make sure scholars explore history in a way that gives them a deep understanding that history is not a series of events led and narrated by white men, but is rather an ongoing and complex narrative of diverse experiences, perspectives, and voices.

At Success Academy, we view black history as simply American history, and we study it throughout the year.

In February, our schools find a number of different ways to celebrate black history outside the classroom. We put on student-led performances or special assemblies with visiting artists, throw parties, go on field trips to renowned cultural sites, create elaborate bulletin board displays, and undertake month-long art projects. One of our favorite ways that some SA schools celebrate Black History Month, however, is with “Historical Figures” Spirit Day. Scholars research which iconic historical figure resonates most for them, and also how that individual looked and dressed.

We hope you enjoy this selection of best-dressed scholars honoring Black History Month!
