Report from the Frontlines: SA Teams Competing Around the Region
Success Academy debaters and athletes competed in some major tournaments this January, marking several significant milestones for our programs:
In mid-January, the Success Academy Middle School Network Basketball Team competed in the Harwood Classic in Goshen, NY. This was our scholars’ first-ever travel basketball tournament representing Success Academy — and they accepted the challenge with relish. Our scholars received many compliments for their behavior, attitude, and demeanor on and off the court.
Soccer also saw some exciting developments, with our U10 Boys Network Team and U11 and U12 Boys Selective MS Teams competing in the Northeast Regional Futsal Tournament in Boston, MA. This tournament caters to highly selective teams that recruit the best players from the top clubs in the region. Success Academy was the only public school competing, and our central goal was to hold our own against these clubs. That is exactly what our scholars accomplished!
In debate, our middle school teams also held their own against fierce competition: high schoolers. We encourage our middle school teams to participate in high school tournaments in the winter and spring. Middle school teams competed in the Newark Debate Academy High School Tournament in Newark, NJ, and despite the tough competition, they dominated — with first-place team and speaker wins in both the Varsity and Novice divisions.
Finally, our high school track stars competed in the New Balance Games at The Armory, which draws runners from across the country to test their speed against the best teams. Our 4x200m relay team prevailed — and took home gold.
We’re excited to share the news about these incredible accomplishments!
