Success Academy Athletes Set School Records at Dunamis Super Meet in Atlanta

This past weekend, fifteen Success Academy scholars boarded a plane to Atlanta, Georgia, to participate in one of the most competitive track meets of the indoor track and field season: the Dunamis Super Meet. More than 2,000 middle school, high school, and college athletes from across the country came together to test their skills on America’s fastest track surface at this elite event.

While many other schools brought juniors and seniors who have been competing for years, our athletes were much younger: four freshman, eight sophomores, two juniors, and even one eighth grader! I was joined by coaches Shawn Carrington and Simone Grant, who helped oversee a very successful weekend. We’re so pleased and proud of how our scholars performed, especially given their youth and relative inexperience!

Together they achieved commendable results and set new personal and school records:

In the girls’ 4×200 meter relay prelims, our team set a new school record and season personal best of 1:47.3. We were one of the top six overall times to qualify for the final. Congratulations, Ronn’e Bailey, Tahira Jessop, Talese Evans, and Isinormeayo Solomon!

The boys’ 4x200m relay also achieved a school record and season personal best of 1:33.8, qualifying for the final. This team included SA Harlem North West eighth grader Brandon Williams and SA HSLA-Manhattan scholars Angel Ravelo, Taequon Overton, and Amari Pinkett.

During the finals on Saturday, our boys and girls teams lined up against some of the fastest 4×200 meter relay teams in the nation. Our girls’ 4x200m relay team medaled and set yet another new school record and season personal best of 1:46.8, taking fifth place overall. Our boys’ 4x200m relay also took fifth place with a time of 1:35.3.

As usual, all our scholars proved themselves true competitors both on and off the track, with great attitudes, strong school spirit, and a sense of collaboration and teamwork — in addition to achieving their excellent times. We’re looking forward to a stellar outdoor track and field season!

Congratulations to all Success Academy athletes who participated: Ronn’e Bailey, Tahira Jessop, Talese Evans, Isinormeayo Solomon, Tyra King, Habiba Tawfiq, Djenebou Toure, Brandon Williams, Angel Ravelo, Amari Pinkett, Taequon Overton, Steve Calderon, Daniel Charles, Jayden Jenkins, Dimitri Franklin
